We received the following email from the student who created the petition: I'm a 17 year old male who for the last 6 months has been suffering from a neurogenic bladder. I was in school studying my A Levels but recently had to withdraw from my first year due to picking up infections. This was due to our school toilets being unhygienic - I’m a long time catheter wearer. I think it's about time someone made a difference and I support your charity fully!! I myself have created a petition along with a Urology Nurse which is live now on the Downing Streets website. Please can you help us to make this worthwhile and publicise this on your website if it is at all possible!

After all every child deserves the right to have a clean hygienic toilet and should have the right to drink as much fluids as needed during lessons to maintain a healthy bladder and bowel. By forcing this law we can help make a difference to the ever-growing 6 million people suffering from some form of incontinence in the UK alone!

Details of petition:
Lots of pupils don’t drink enough because they don’t want to have to use the toilet at school. Or they don't drink enough, because they aren't allowed to go to the toilet when they need to - pupils shouldn't have to be hanging on bursting to go. The consequences of these actions results in some pupils having constipation and a reduced bladder. This means if you get into the habit of not drinking enough, your bladder gets smaller and can’t hold as much urine. This means you need to urinate more often. Not drinking enough also means pupils can get dehydrated, which leads to pupils not being able to concentrate in lessons. So therefore we're asking for your support in asking schools to install water fountains. As well as giving pupils sufficient fluid breaks, within the day with at least one being within the afternoon. Pupils should also be entitled to a clean safe toilet, with the availability of use throughout the day. Allowing these rights to pass will result in gaining better concentration levels during lessons. These simple changes, which can be made, will in effect change the number of young pupils suffering from a weak bladder or even constipation.
