National Charity Launches Exciting Children’s Competition

DESIGN A CHARACTER FOR ERIC (Education and Resources for
Improving Childhood Continence).
ERIC organises the Bog Standard and Water is Cool in School campaigns.

Aardman Animations is delighted to be judging a design competition in association with ERIC, the national charity that supports children and families facing the problems of childhood continence.

The charity is inviting children aged 5-18 to design a character that will represent ERIC on their website and leaflets.

"I love to be involved in competitions like this as it is an opportunity to see imaginative and exciting young talent producing great character designs. That has always been the basis of Aardman's best work", said Peter Lord, Aardman's founder.

"And I’m pleased as well if it brings attention to the campaign work ERIC does. When I was promoting our last feature "Flushed Away" I heard about their Bog Standard campaign to improve school toilets and I thought it seemed just the kind of cause we'd like to support.”

Penny Dobson, ERIC’s Director, said: “We are extremely grateful to Aardman Animations for their fantastic support and for providing some great prizes; a framed photographic still of Gromit from the 2005 film Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-rabbit, plus a collection of Aardman DVDs and character merchandise. We very much hope that young people will be inspired to log onto www.eric.org.uk to find out how to enter the competition. We look forward to seeing lots of really imaginative ideas.”

Editor’s Notes

ERIC (Education and Resources for Improving Childhood Continence ERIC was set up in 1988 by the Children’s Society to address the problems of bedwetting in children and young people. The organisation became an independent registered charity in April 1991. Since its inception, the charity has expanded its services to include children with daytime wetting, soiling and constipation, and incontinence in children with physical and learning needs. ERIC organises the Water is Cool in School and Bog Standard campaigns.

ERIC’s mission is:
“To reduce the prevalence of nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting), daytime wetting, soiling & associated conditions and the suffering they cause children and young people throughout the UK”.
