Office of the Children’s Commissioner for England (OCC)

Tell the OCC you want better school toilets urgently!
The Office of the Children’s Commissioner (OCC) wants to hear from children and young people. It’s their chance to tell the OCC they need better toilets.

The OCC is a new, independent organisation that’s been set up to make sure that children and young people have a say in issues that affect them, whoever they are and wherever they’re from in England.

It’s their job to tell politicians, the media and people who work with them, what children would like to happen to make their world a better place.

The OCC wants to know what is most important to children. What they would like to change. Their website says, “If it matters to you, it matters to us. We’re the OCC and if you tell us what you’re thinking, we’ll tell the world and work towards making things better for children and young people. It’s your call. This is your chance to let us know what’s closest to your heart. Then it’s our job to try and do something about it.”

This is a brilliant opportunity to make sure the OCC hears about the problems lots of pupils face with their school toilets. This can be any problem that bothers them, such as nasty, smelly and dirty toilets, no toilet paper or locks on doors, bullies and smokers in the toilets, or teachers who don’t let them go to the toilet when they need to.

And don’t forget drinking water. If children are still expected to suck up a dribble of tepid water from old-fashioned fountains or taps in the toilets or regularly can’t get a drink at school when they’re thirsty, then tell the OCC!

Bog Standard’s urgent message to children and young people is:

Email the OCC as soon as you read this. Don’t hang on! Tell all your friends too. Email your friends this page.

The OCC is no longer giving prizes for your entries but they still want to hear your views.

If you're from Wales, N Ireland or Scotland, please also write to your Children's Commissioner. Click here for their email address (scroll down to the end of the 'What you can do' page)
